Many people search for the 'best keyword tool' but one thing I've found is that in reality you have to use all of them to get the best results. Even if each keyword tool you use gives you just one more iteration that you hadn't got on your list, then it's well worth it. In the keyword business, one single keyword can make you a fortune. So it's vital to use every keyword tool you can.

Especially make use of the free keyword tools. Google have an excellent keyword tool now. And Overture's, although very dated now, is still an excellent way to build up a beefy keyword list. Also look at Keywords Analyzer. I know I mention this tool a lot, but I use it every day and it's nothing short of a delight to use. It's the one paid tool I wouldn't want to be without.

You will find that various keyword mining tools do produce many similar variations. But it's up to you to hunt out the keywords that you don't have and make the most of each tools own idiosyncrasies.

I got this great question from a visitor to my keyword research site today:

"Keywords Analyzer - Can you run it on a Mac? If not, Do know similar software that does!

Cheers

Rudy"

There's some good news and some bad news I guess. The bad news is that this software doesn't strictly speaking have a Mac Version. The only way that you could run keywords analyzer on your Mac would be if you were to install Virtual PC on your computer.

This is pretty easy to do but, if you haven't got the Virtual PC software already, it's going to be more expensive. It will cost you around $100 for the software (depending where you buy it).

As the Mac based keyword research tools out there are limited to say the least, I'd definitely recommend using an online service. There are a number of these around but the best one I've tested is WordTracker. It beats tools like Keyword Discovery without much effort and I've used it for years.

I received a great email from one of my sites visitors about Keywords Analyzer that I thought I'd repost here. As it might help you if you're considering buying this tool also:

Hi Tom,

I have been searching on the Internet from the past five hours to choose the soft ware for the keyword research, and I think I shall decide for Keywords Analyzer. I just have two questions to ask:

1. Is there any detailed manual/ebook comes with the subscription FREE that explains us (especially the new ones) about how to use this software/program? I mean, the new users have to have something in their hands to follow in order for them to know all the functions of this software.

2. The keywords that this software pulls out are from all the three major search engines or ONLY from Overture?

Thanks and waiting for your reply.

Hello and thanks for the email.

I've been researching into the help manual for Keywords Analyzer and have some good news. There's an excellent manual built in to the software. What makes it so good? A couple of things.

Firstly, there's a lot of it. There's sections for every feature of the tool and it's all written in an easy-to-follow tutorial style. Things like SEO, Working with Google Bids, and a good Getting Started section.

I got a great question from one of my website's visitors today that I thought I'd re-post on my blog here:

I'm very new to PPC advertisement, and I have a question that might sound really stupid to you:

Once I managed to build it up, what shall I do with my super huge keyword list?

(probably I cant afford to bid on each keyword?)

Thanks for your help,

Karolina

Hello Karolina

Thanks for the email. And there's really no stupid questions. ;-)

I think the first thing you have to do is to spend some time getting rid of the keywords in the list that either aren't relevant or would attract low quality buyers. An obvious one I start with is the word 'free'. Lots of surfers are searching for free versions of all kinds of stuff and those people don't convert very well.

What you want to do is to end up with keyword lists that are really focused, relevant to your market, and cover as many different ways of saying something that you can come up with. It's amazing how many different ways your potential buyers will all search for the same thing! ;-)

If you hadn't heard all the fuss this caused, you might have felt it's effects in other ways. At the end of January, Yahoo's keyword selection tool - inventory.overture.com/ - stopped working.

This tool (and it's local variations) is used by millions of keyword researchers around the globe. Not to mention many keyword research companies, affiliates, researchers, writers and several major keyword mining software products.

Speculation was rife that Yahoo were finally retiring the old beast and that it just wouldn't be there any more. Well, the good news is that this rumour can be put to rest. Here's what Sarah, one of Yahoo's reps had to say on the matter:

"Hey there,

WordTracker, one of the web's leading keyword research tools, has released a free version of their keyword tool. It's available online and doesn't have any ads on it, or any limitations to the tool. (Other than a very reasonable 100 keyword per search limit).

Here's the URL: http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/

I've been testing this little gem out today and I'll add it to my list of free keyword research tools by the time you read this. Make sure you add a bookmark to this tool.

If you've looked at pretty much any of the keyword products out there, you'll no doubt have been blasted with the hype strewn around their homepages. One of the big 'selling points' you will be hit with is usually the sheer number of keywords you'll be able to generate with a given tool. Bigger. Better. More!

But hold up a second here. The number of keywords a keyword tool pumps out shouldn't determine how good it is, or whether or not you lay down your hard-earned for it. If you think the way to be successful in any market is to build up a VAST keyword list and get as much traffic as possible - you're mistaken.

What's the problem with lots of keyphrases?

Well, nothing. As long as all of the keywords are relevant. The really important thing here is relevance. If you can build up a keyword list of 10,000 keywords that are 100% relevant and focused to your niche, then great.

Everyone wants to build up comprehensive keyword lists for their industry that don't miss any important variations. But building good keyword lists takes time, imagination, and practice. With that in mind, here's some pointers to help you stay ahead in the word mining game.

1 - Use Different Tools - even free ones

If you're only using one keyword tool, you're missing out. Different keyword programs and tools will give you slightly different results. I use a number of different programs and online services (free and paid) to build my keyword lists.

Best of the paid tools:

Hi everyone

I just wanted to make a quick post here about a tool I bought and downloaded last night. It's called Keyword Convert and it's a software gizmo that does an absolutely magic job at increasing your keyword lists.

I'm just learning how to use it and I'll post a full review and hopefully some tutorials on it soon. For now let me give you a quick run down of why it will have such a huge impact on your keyword lists.

What does KeywordConvert do? It generates and builds up keyword lists for you - but it does it in a really interesting and unique sort of way.
