Golden Keywords Review    By Tom Armstrong

It's hard to say anything positive about this tool. I found it to be a simply terrible bit of software. Even though it's a lot cheaper than other packages, it should be avoided at all costs.

What does this software do? Golden Keywords promises "fast exhaustive keyword research" on it's home page. It's a tool designed to build keyword lists for you. You input one or more keyphrases and then the software will suggest other phrases you might want to add to your list.
Initial notes I was keen to review Golden Keywords as it came in as the cheapest tool I've found so far at $49.95.
Buying notes This product is offered through the RegNow network. This is a highly reliable company and I've bought loads of software products through them. After melting the credit card just a bit more I was given instant access to the software. All fast, easy and no problems.
First impressions When you fire up Golden Keywords you're presented with a plain window with a series of tabs running along the top. First impressions were that it looked a bit dull and unwelcoming.

Another thing I would say is that it's really difficult to figure this software out from just playing around with it. After 20 or so fruitless minutes I had to admit defeat and consulted the manual. This is the only tool so far I where couldn't at least figure out the basics for myself.
What I liked Builds keyword lists from a huge range of places

Golden Keywords builds keyword lists from many different sources on the web. It searches Overture / Yahoo as well as other relevant sites and pages to gather keywords from. It even looks around sites like the online encyclopedia Wikipedia for ideas for keyphrases.

Comes with a lot of keyphrases built in

This is a great idea. You can choose to search an internal archive of keyphrases that come bundled with this software. There's a good number of keywords in there too. This is something I haven't seen on other tools. The benefit is that keywords stored on your hard drive take no time to access and search.

Well thought out way to export keywords

This software actually has one of the best ways to export keyphrases I've seen. You can choose to export to a text file with loads of options on how the keywords will be saved. You can separate them by tab, semicolon, comma, space or any other character. This is very handy for getting the list into your favourite spreadsheet program.
What I didn't like Not an 'easy to use' interface

I found the way this software is laid out is very confusing. It's not clear from the interface what each function does. Even after playing around for a while with it, you're still wondering what it is you're meant to be doing. The help manual offers little assistance to this end.

Very time-consuming to use

After performing your keyword research, you then have to manually approve or disapprove every keyword that has been dug out. I'm sure people have better things to with their time than this. After all, keyword research tools should make things faster for you, not give you more work.

No way of telling how much time is remaining on a search

Another puzzler is that you can't tell how much time the software will take to complete it's research. It just seems to keep on digging and digging. A lot of the time it doesn't seem to be doing much. Keywords Analyzer and Keyword Elite both take a while to run in some modes but they both offer some form of counter to show how long you have remaining.

Short, weak keyword lists

I didn't manage to build up any serious keyword lists with this software. Usually when it comes to keyword research, it's a case of building up a huge list and then having to prune away the keyphrases you don't need. Here you don't have that luxury. I couldn't build up a decent list with this software at all.

Awful, irrelevant keywords

Looking down some of the keyword lists I've managed to make here, I can't find anything positive to say about them. It seems to bring back really broad, vague keyphrases that don't relate much to the original keywords I searched on.
Strengths
  • Uses a wide range of data sources to build lists
  • Cheaper than the bigger programs out there
  • Comes with an internal database of keywords
  • Good at exporting your keyword list
Weaknesses
  • No country specific search
  • Very difficult to use interface
  • Needs lots of manual work to build up a keyword list
  • Brings back a lot of irrelevant words
  • No timer / percentage complete guide
  • Makes short, low quality keyword lists
The verdict No surprise if you've read through this review that this isn't going to be a top recommended tool. This is the first really bad product I've reviewed and it makes me appreciate the other software I've tested up to this point more.

This is a simply awful product and the $50 that seemed like a cheap investment earlier in the day now seems like a very expensive amount to pay. You won't find anything here to build up a serious keyword list so avoid it like the plague.
Refund details There is no refund on this product. (I emailed and asked about it and was told that because there's a trial version available, they don't 'usually' offer refunds. Not good!)
