| What does this software do? | Rapid keyword has three main parts to it.
1) Keyword list building There's 7 different ways to build up your keyword lists here: • Overture search suggestions • Related keywords spider • Yahoo related spider • Google proximity search • Get keywords from Google Groups • From google's keyword tool • Meta tag spider 2) Competitive analysis This is the usual fair. You can see the number of competing webpages, Yahoo ads, Google ads, Miva ads and the number of searches. Basic stuff but it covers it well enough. 3) Managing lists There's some decent tools in here along with some not-so-useful ones. I really liked the Merge Lists tool that combines two lists. And the remove duplicates is something that will be something that anyone building keyword lists will really appreciate. You can also filter out certain words and generate typos (AKA generate misspellings). This is a nice set of tools. |
| Initial notes | I was excited to try out a new keyword research tool and from the homepage Rapid Keyword sounded great. It's also not that expensive (as far as keyword software goes).
|
| Buying notes | The company that handles the credit card payments for this product are Clickbank. I've spend thousands of dollars through this company and they're highly reputable and reliable. If there's a problem with the purchase, their staff always sort it out quickly. |
| First impressions |
I have to say that when I installed this program I really wasn't that impressed with the look of it. The first thing I noticed was that it didn't fit in my monitor and there was no way to resize it. I always find it frustrating when I install some software that doesn't fit properly on my screen.
It also looked overly simplistic. I know that's a little harsh before I'd tested it out, but that was my impression when starting it up. There were 4 buttons down the left side and a couple of drop down boxes along the top. It looked more like a freebie tool. |

Overture results un-jumbled and much better than free version
When I saw that one of the free ways to generate keywords was Overture's keyword suggestion tool (which is available for free) I thought "Uhu, this isn't going to be very good!" But this tool does something different. It refines the keyphrases so that they make more sense. Overture suggestions is notorious for mixing up words and missing out words like 'to'. Rapid Keyword un-jumbles them and gives you the 'true' phrases. Impressive. Scans webpages and meta tags for more keyphrases Here's something that was interesting. Rapid Keyword searches google and Yahoo and downloads a lot of pages for any keyword you research. It then reads through these pages and looks for your keyword on those pages. Then it reports back any words that are found relating to your phrase. This is an interesting way to find phrases that your competition are using that you might have missed. I was able to find a number of new ideas for keyphrases. Related keywords worked really well Another way to hunt down keywords that I thought worked well was using the Related Keywords Spider. This takes keywords like 'romantic gift' and brings back 'romantic present' and similar keywords. Again, this takes a lot of the thinking out of making extensive keyword lists. This is definitely a feature I'll use. |

Slow at digging out phrases
Some of the keyword-digging tools that come with this software seem to run really slowly. The percentage complete bar seems to really drag at times. Especially compared to the likes of WordTracker or Keyword Analyzer. Theoretically you leave it running while you do something else. But other tools do seem faster than this one. Very basic competitive analysis If you're looking to really get the scoop on your competition then this isn't the tool for you. The only thing you can see here is the number of ads and the number of searches. With Keywords Analyzer, as an example, you can see bid prices, separate out phrase and exact match and much more. No way to search multiple ideas at a time Another thing I missed here was the ability to drill down on a phrase. For example it's not possible to right click on a keyphrase and choose say 'perform separate search' on that phrase. You'd have to clear all the phrases and then run a separate search on that. This was really frustrating and I felt like it really needed a tabbed interface (like Keywords Analyzer has). |

| The verdict |
This certainly isn't a bad tool and it has a number of unique and interesting ways to build up your keyword lists. I really love the related phrases search and the way it refines the Overture results. You will find phrases with this that you haven't already thought of.
I'd say that if you've got Keywords Analyzer or Wordtracker and you're looking for something ELSE then get this. If you're only buying one tool however, save your cash for now and buy one of the others I recommend. A good tool but there are better out there. I'd buy it as a compliment to Keywords Analyzer or WordTracker. |
